skater skirts
One of my favorite trends this season is def. the skater skirts!! There are so many different styles along with so many different ways to wear them! Since I mostly wear maxi skirts I decided to only purchase one skater skirt to make sure I would wear it. I got a denim one so I could wear it with a lot of outfits. I’ve only worn it two times and I’m still thinking of different outfits I can pair it with. Meanwhile here are some pictures I found while browsing the internet. I love these outfits and I might actually try to re-create some of the looks!

I’m really excited to do this interview! I recently discovered JayneDo from my friend Klarke’s instagram/twitter. She had posted a picture from a fashion event with JayneDo and she really caught my eye, so I asked if she had an instagram. From that point on I fell in love. I quickly wanted to know more about her as a person and also about what she does! I decided to do an interview with her and share it with my blog readers because she gave me a loto of tips and personal experience that I want to share! So here we go..

I first asked her to tell more about her self and what she does along with her website.

I was born Tatyana, but I go by the name “JayneDo” .. when fashion is involved . I am originally from Houston, Texas but I relocate often. I am a business woman, entrepreneur, fashion designer, stylist, blogger, fashion journalist, personal shopper, consultant, magazine contributor and a fashion retail management major that would love to venture into fashion photography once my workload lightens up. I do any and everything that has anything to do with fashion. is a MEGASITE that showcases the talents of fashion personnel worldwide, home to my portfolio, the latest in fashion news and tips, interviews from local talent and celebrities, and much much more. I really wanted to create a fashion-site, that makes you come back time after time .. like a fashion home.

Q:How and why did you decide to do this type of work?
A: Honestly.. It was never anything planned . I think people have certain callings or reasons why they’ve been place on this earth. Fashion is my calling. When I was a young girl, I used to make Barbie doll clothes out of toilet tissue.. paper mâché dresses. I’ve always been a hustler , I used to sell everything I could get my hands on .. It just manifested into what it is today through hard work, being innovative , and staying true to my personal style. Fashion has always been apart of my life, I didn’t just discover it recently and became a stylist . Fashion is my destiny.

Q:What are your job responsibilities?
A:I have so many responsibilities . I design, alter and revamp clothing. With styling and personal shopping, I have to buy clothes, pull pieces, network with designers and study my clients to a science. I have to stay hip to the latest trends and fashion, even if I don’t follow them, I study fashion a lot.. Input together photo shoots, I’m always invited to do press at events .. there is no ending to my responsibilities. I just did all of these things today. lol There’s more, but I don’t think we have enough time for that.

Q:Describe your typical day at work.
A: A typical day is very unpredictable . No sleep is ever involved . This week was very I was a little all over the place. Today I had a photo shoot with the face of my company, Ania of LacedNLamez and also Klarke of KlarkesKloset. We went shopping, I put some looks together and we had a shoot. I’ll most likely be up all night updating my site and constructing more shoots before my busy day tomorrow .

Q:What personal traits and skills are necc. for your job?
A. Patience is most important. Education is vital as well, and I’m not talking the things they teach you in school but the things you learn from life itself. Ambition. Drive. Passion and an eye for fashion. This have to be a field that you were destined to do, not just something you think you will be good at just because you have style.

Q:What type of education and training is required?
A: Honestly, none. Unless you want to do something technical or corporate . No one has ever asked me for a degree or certificate. Fashion roots from talent, there’s no classes for that. I have the talent, I’m just in school now just incase I want to go corporate. I like to keep my options open.

Q:What is the beginning salary range and what are the benefits of your job?
A: Salary varies. Depends on what you do and how well you do it . In this industry you have the option to create your own salary.

Q:What are the basic guidelines when styling someone?
A: I like to get a feel for the persons personality. I’m very observant, so I look for body language, posture .. things like that. After having a conversation with them or listening to them talk, I usually know by then which direction I want to go.

Q:Describe your style

A: My style is indescribable . It has no direction , and it isn’t easily identifiable . That’s where the name “JayneDo” come from.

Q:What are your favorite trends this season?
A: Peplum , Jerseys and Neon. Metallics , overalls and leather is also a favorite of mine .

Q:What trend would you like to see go?
A: Spandex dresses, I wish they were gone like yesterday. They’re very cheap looking and everyone wears them for every thing.

Q:What items do you slurge on?
A: Hmmmm. I used to splurge heavily on blazers, they’re still my weakness now .. but as of lately I’ve been so attentive to work and my clients, I haven’t had the time yet to splurge on myself. But when I do shop, I probably spend a lot on shoes.

Q:What is your most favorite outfit that you have worn?
A: My favorite outfit .. that’s a tough one . I have the boxing pants, they’re neon greens and blues and they came from the 80’s, they look like something Will Smith would wear. I wish I could wear them everyday, but I can’t. lol
I wore it with a white tank, and glitter platforms .

Here are some pictures of JayneDo, her work and her website:

makeup starter kitI know everyone isn’t as good with makeup as others. I started wearing makeup in 7t h grade and I basically self taught myself with the help of youtube videos. There was one point where I was really good and I was going to take classes to become a freelance makeup artist. As fun as that is, I decided I’d rather do my own makeup! I know a lot of girls that don’t start wearing makeup till they got to college and I just think to myself “WOW!” It’s so weird to me just because I started wearing it in middle school. Anyways no matter how old you are, I decided to put together what would be a good makeup starter kit. A lot of girls make the mistake of buying everything and anything all at once. That’s kinda of what I did and I wouldn’t suggest it, esp. if you are funding it yourself; in my situation, I was not. So here is a list of things I came up with that would be a good start to your makeup bag. I have pretty much tried all of these things for many years so that’s why I am suggesting it.
1. FOUNDATION   : Revlon Photoready, Revlon Colorstay, Maybelline Dream Fresh BB creme
2. CONCEALER :Maybelline Fit me concealer, Revlon colorstay under-eye concealer ,NYX HD photo concealer.
3.SETTING POWDER OR TRANSLUCENT POWDER: Maybelline Mineral Power Powder, ELF HD setting powder, Covergirl clean oil control powder.
4. NEUTRAL EYESHADOW PALLETE : WET ‘N’WILD, ELF, Maybelline neutral eyeshadow palletes.
5. EYESHADOW PRIMER: elf eyeshadow primer
6. PENCIL/CREME EYELINER: Wet ‘n’ Wild, revlon, maybelline eyeliners
7. MASCARA: Maybelline, Covergirl
8. LIPGLOSS/ LIPSTICK: NYX, Maybelline, Wet n Wild
9. BRONZER: ELF, NYC sunny bronzer
10. BRUSH KIT ( THAT INCLUDES: foundation brush, concealer brush, powder brush, blush/bronzer brush, and eyeshadow brush) : Eco-tools, ELF

style header #1
There are so many different styles in the world today and a lot of people have the problem of trying to discover what their style is. A big thing about discovering your style is that you have to stay true to you and make sure you really like what you’re wearing! A lot of people ask me what my style is and it has taken me a long time to figure it out. I did a previous blog post about my style. Feel free to check it out:
I also constantly get asked by my friends to put together their outfits and I would also get asked how they can develop their style. So this post is dedicated to everyone who wants to find and develop their personal style! 🙂
#1: Evaluate your closet. Go through what you already own and decide what you like. Pieces that you keep should have a fit that’s flattering to your body, as well as an overall look that blends with your shape. Throw out or donate anything that fits poorly or that you’re hesitant to wear out of the house. A good rule of the thumb is that if you haven’t worn it for 6 months (barring seasonal items such as sweaters for winter or swimsuits for summer), get rid of it.
#2:Pick out the elements that you like. On the clothes that you do keep, evaluate what exactly it is that makes you like to wear them – such as the cut, the sleeves, the embellishments, or the color. Write down a list of these elements and take it shopping with you later.
#3:Look for inspiration. One way to foster and develop your own style is to find out what looks good on other people. Leaf through magazines or watch TV for trends that catch your eye. If people often compliment you on looking like a certain celebrity, search their name online and see what they wear to compliment their coloring and size. Alternatively, visit crowded places such as malls or downtown sidewalks. Observe what people are wearing, and take note of fashions you like.
#4:Ask for help. If you’re having a hard time finding inspiration, or you worry about having bad taste, ask for an outside opinion. Contact a close friend or family member whose sense of style you admire, and ask him or her what might look good on you. Or, visit a department store or boutique that carries fashions you like and ask a salesperson to help you assemble a stylish look that’s right for you.
#5:Don’t forget shoes. A new pair of shoes can add a different flair to your look. Look for something you can wear often and that fits with the general look you’re trying to achieve.
#6:Go shopping. When you’ve decided what you like, start shopping. You don’t have to replenish your wardrobe all in one go – instead, consider shopping at small intervals, such as every few weeks, until you’ve assembled a closet you like. Visit thrift or consignment stores, malls, outlets, boutiques or department stores, or shop online.
#7:Shop with a friend who is not afraid to offer gentle (but constructive) criticism with you while you shop. This way you, will get an honest opinion of your style.
#8: Accessorize. Punch up your regular look by adding a few interesting accessories.
#9:Change your hairstyle.  True, your hairstyle isn’t part of your clothing, but it can drastically alter how your clothing looks. Try styling your hair a different way in the morning, or see if a new shampoo or product helps it look better. If you’re going to try a radically different cut or color, consult a stylist as to what might look best on you. Find images in magazines or online for inspiration, and take them to your appointment.
#10:Be yourself. The most important thing about your new look should be that it makes you feel great. Creating a personal style is really just wearing what you want. Think more positively and be more constructive and expressive with your ideas and abilities.
  • Wear colors that make you feel happy and pretty. When you feel good in your clothes, you’ll look good in your clothes.
  • Follow the three F’s: flatters, fits, finances.
  • If you’re looking to control your budget, don’t end your search at big-box discount stores. Although they are always lowering prices, you can find even cheaper stuff at second-hand shops.
  • If you want to really be unique, you can make your own clothes and accessories. Of course, this will require skill in sewing, crocheting, etc.
  • Don’t be afraid to copy. If you admire someone’s style, borrow ideas from them. Just keep the number of elements you copy to a minimum or you may rub them the wrong way.
  • If you’re a girl, try new makeup. Visit the makeup section of a department store for a complimentary makeover. Tell the makeup artist what you’re interested in, but be willing to accept his/her input; you could be hiding your best features. Be prepared to purchase at least one thing as a thank-you.
  • Have fun clothes with loud prints and cool patterns.
  • Don’t dwell on it if someone copies you. There’s more to you than your style and there’s more to your style than that one aspect. Take it as a compliment and find something new.
Study up on style – I don’t mean memorize the latest trends or even necessarily try to emulate high-fashion looks. I’m talking learning about real STYLE. Look to fashion icons of the past: find photos and videos & examine what they wore and what elements of that style you find appealing. Flip through Vogue and browse  runway photos. Rip out or print whatever YOU really like.
Make mistakes! – Fashion is all about experimentation. Don’t be afraid to wear something crazy if you’re in love with it! In fact, it’s almost better if everyone thinks you’re crazy because that’s how you know you’re original. Even if you really regret wearing something later, remember that all the most famous style icons make fashion mistakes at some point. (If you don’t believe me, check out some old pictures of Nicole Richie! She wasn’t born the fashion trendsetter that she is today!) Making mistakes is part of learning about what works and what doesn’t. Everyone has to go through it, and it will only make you MORE
Follow and skip trends as you please
Look at fabrics, cuts and styles; NOT brand names – You want to look for quality, not for a logo you recognize. 9 times out of 10 the label on your clothing says absolutely nothing about its stylishness anyway.
Never stop developing your style – Throughout your life, your style is going to grow and change. And that’s a good thing! Whatever you do, don’t let yourself get complacent and bored, wearing the same looks over and over. Have fun with your look and don’t be afraid to shake things up whenever you feel the urge!

At the end of the day, developing a unique style is something that I believe everyone who cares about fashion should do. I know it might be more work to find unique pieces and work them your way than it would be to just buy whatever’s new at the mall, but it’s so incredibly worth it. Don’t let a retail store define you: define yourself and show your personality off through what you wear! That’s what REAL fashion is all about anyway. ♡♡♡

I hope that kind of helped! 🙂 I decided to include some outfit pictures for some inspiration!

As many of you all know, I love shopping at thrift stores and wearing vintage clothing. My number one reason that I love for shopping at thrift stores is that I am buying things that really no one else has and if someone does have it, it’s prob not where I live. If you haven’t tried thrifting, you totally should. Here are some things that I picked up today!

This topic brings about lots of discussion and difference of opinions, both good and bad. This is going to be from my opinion and my thoughts but feel free to leave your thoughts about it. I think that blonde hair on african american women looks gorgeous. With that being said, there are times that it just doesn’t look right. Most times it’s not even about the color. I’ve been reading lots of forums and blogs about this topic and they give examples of bad blonde hair on african american women. I noticed that the hair is just a bad weave! The weave is nappy or the cut and style just doesn’t flatter their face shape. I honestly do not think it’s because their hair is blonde. I hate the stereotype that african american women should not wear blonde hair. I couldn’t disagree more. Who made the rules of what each race can do? I feel that society has made us to believe certain things are for certain people. Society is always saying “BE YOURSELF!” but when we choose to express ourselves, we are looked down upon. Every other race can choose to dye their hair any color and it’s alright for them but if an african american women decides to do the same thing, she is judged.

I think that it is really sad that our society  is this way. Everyone should be about to do what they want and how they want. If an african american woman wants to be blonde, let her. If a white woman wants dreds, let her! Who are we to say what’d good for them?! Most people are uneducated when it comes to topics like this. Melanesians are an ethnic group from Melanesia, an island around Australia, and what is amazing about these people is that they are the only dark skinned people in the entire world to naturally have blond hair!

tumblr_ly2ffymprG1qm02woo1_1280I think blonde hair looks totally gorgeous on this child!

Basically what I am saying is, african american women should not be looked down upon for having blonde hair. It’s just hair for goodness sakes. With all the problems in the world right now, are you really worried about someone’s hair color?! Everyone should be allowed to express their individuality! I have received a lot of heat on this topic because I want to dye my hair blonde. The number one response I got was that I am too dark. -__- I really get upset when I hear that! Even though I get upset, I get over it pretty quickly! I don’t really listen to people’s opinions from the way I dress to the way I do my hair. I am an individual and I love standing out. People are constantly telling me that they admire me because I don’t care about what others think of me!

This is a comment a girl left under one of my instagram pictures:

[ “Ok I just followed you and was skimming through your pictures and reading your captions. I really like you. Your very pretty and can dress. You actually inspired me not to care about what others think about my sense of style. Thank you]

Seeing things like that really make my day. At the end of the day, you have to make yourself happy because that’s all that matters. No matter what you do in this world you are going to have people judge you. So why not have people judge you for something you love then something you are doing just to fit in? I’m going to go blonde simply because I like it and I want to do it. I could care less what others may sy about it, because really at the end of the day, IT’S JUST HAIR!!
